Both accounts use the same email address. If you have a POP account and add a IMAP account for the same email address there is no need to get a new email address. Do you see lots of past mail there, including stuff you thought you'd deleted? Login to the gmail webmail client, and look at 'All Mail'. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of gmail will comment. Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not change. The difference, in Thunderbird, is that the server name is usually different, and the access method is set to POP or IMAP. You can set up 2 'accounts' in Thunderbird both pointing to that one email provider account. That account has an email address and login details. You have a single account with your email provider (gmail, ISP, whatever). I changed that account to IMAP - it was on on a new computer - but I don't remember what was involved. My wife used it with POP some years ago and I recall there were options within gmail (settable in the webmail client) governing what email was retreived and how 'delete from server' was interpreted. As I mentioned, gmail is non-standard in several ways. Not ideal, but seems the least risky option for me. I think what I will do is use gmail,whilst away from my main computer the desktop, and when I get home, forward the important ones to myself on the desktop. The emails to Android, sorry m8, way above my paygrade.Ĭhanging TB pop to IMAP also seems daunting, and possible losses I may incur if I do something wrong. So, backing up and restoring using Hekasoft, I lose emails whilst I am restoring from laptop to desktop, and vice versa. My problem originates as a result of my being in and out of hospital, and that I use TB with the POP3 config. Thanks for the reply and great to hear from you.
